National Assembly Standing Committee Decides to Accept and Study Two Draft Laws

Phnom Penh – In a significant step forward for Cambodia’s legislative process, the National Assembly Standing Committee has approved two draft laws at the request of the Royal Government. This approval paves the way for these laws to be submitted to the National Assembly Expert Committee for further review, study, and eventual reporting back to the National Assembly Standing Committee.

The meeting, held on the morning of Monday, September 2, 2024, was chaired by National Assembly President Khuon Sodary, who led discussions on several key agendas. The focus of the meeting centered on the review and approval of the two draft laws under consideration.

The first draft law addresses the establishment and regulation of wastewater systems, reflecting the government's commitment to enhancing environmental standards and addressing public health concerns. The second draft law pertains to Cambodia’s accession to an international agreement regarding the joint technical regulations set forth by the United Nations for vehicles, equipment, and spare parts. This agreement aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of conformity assessments based on UN regulations, thereby improving the safety and quality standards of vehicles used within the Kingdom.

The approval of these draft laws signifies a proactive approach from the National Assembly in aligning Cambodia’s legislative framework with international standards and addressing pressing environmental issues. As the expert committee undertakes its review, the National Assembly looks forward to constructive discussions that will enhance the legislative process and contribute to the nation’s development goals.

This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of the National Assembly and the Royal Government to foster sustainable development while ensuring the wellbeing of Cambodian citizens.
